Need to clean out some closets?  Have some jeans your kids have outgrown or just don't wear anymore?  The Community Service Club is sponsoring a jeans drive in cooperation with "dosomething.org" and "Aeropostale".  We have an opportunity to win a $5,000 grant and a concert by The Vamps.  Please send all gently used jeans teen size and up to school for you child to turn in to their Bulldog Block teacher.  The winning Bulldog Block per grade level will also get a treat.  The deadline to turn in jeans is February 11th.

Rotary Honor Roll
  Rotary Honor Roll
Rotary Honor Roll Applications will be available in December.  Deadline to turn in Application is Wednesday, February 4th at 3:30 pm.

Each year, the Rotary Club of Omaha honors outstanding eighth grade students from across the community.  In order to be considered for this opportunity, eighth graders need to complete and submit an application.  A team of staff members will score applications using a rubric to narrow the field.  The final applicant field will be submitted to staff for final selection.

This award seeks to acknowledge students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, character, scholarship and presence.  The act of self-advocating through the completion of an application is a great introduction to tasks such as applying for a job, submitting scholarship applications, and applying to college.  Students who are selected for the award will be invited to the 88th Annual Rotary Honor Roll Luncheon on May 6th.  For more information on the Rotary Honor Roll you can visit http://honorroll.omaharotary.org/

We are excited to announce that our One Beadle, One Book has been chosen. We will read the book Ungifted by Gordon Korman. A synopsis for the book can be found below. The OBOB Kick-off will be held on February 2nd at 3:15 p.m. in the media center. Students will be able to purchase a copy of the book for $7.00.

We are truly excited about the many types of hands on activities this book will inspire. Please come and join in the fun. If your child is unable to attend the Kickoff on February 2nd, please email Dana Martin at dmmartin@mpsomaha.org, send $7.00 in an envelope addressed to Dana Martin with your child's name on it. Mrs. Martin will send a copy home with your student. We look forward to having your student participate in our OBOB activities!

The word gifted has never been applied to a kid like Donovan Curtis. It's usually more like Don't try this at home. So when the troublemaker pulls a major prank at his middle school, he thinks he's finally gone too far. But thanks to a mix-up by one of the administrators, instead of getting in trouble, Donovan is sent to the Academy of Scholastic Distinction (ASD), a special program for gifted and talented students.

It wasn't exactly what Donovan had intended, but there couldn't be a more perfect hideout for someone like him. That is, if he can manage to fool people whose IQs are above genius level. And that becomes harder and harder as the students and teachers of ASD grow to realize that Donovan may not be good at math or science (or just about anything). But after an ongoing experiment with a live human (sister), an unforgettably dramatic middle-school dance, and the most astonishing come-from-behind robot victory ever, Donovan shows that his gifts might be exactly what the ASD students never knew they needed.
